A simple daily reflection to help children understand their feelings.

Big feelings can be hard to understand, especially for little ones.

My Day & Feelings is a simple one-page daily reflection designed to help children slow down, look back on their day, and begin to recognize and express what they are feeling.

One Important Thing We Want Children to Learn

Your overall feeling and your strongest feeling can be different.

You can have a happy day and still feel angry at one moment or have a difficult day with a moment of excitement.

Children often think they need to choose just one feeling to describe their day. This simple distinction helps them begin to understand that we can feel many different emotions in one day and one strong emotion doesn't have to define the whole day.

What’s Inside

Each daily reflection includes space for your child to:

  • 🎨 Draw a moment from their day
  • ✏️ Write about what happened during their day (Optional, depending on age)
  • 💭 Think about how their day felt overall
  • ❤️ Identify the strongest emotion they experienced
  • 🌿 Reflect on what helped them feel better or calm down
  • 💌 Read or receive a personal note from a parent

6 Simple Tips for Parents

You don't have to turn this into another big routine. Here are a few ways to make it easy and enjoyable:

1. Don't try to do it perfectly from the beginning.
The goal isn't to create a perfect journaling habit. Start simply and let your child get comfortable with reflecting on their feelings.

2. Start once a week.
You don't have to use it every day. Once a week is a great way to introduce the practice without making it feel like homework.

3. Try doing it together.
Children often engage more easily when they see their parents participating too. Take a few minutes to reflect on your own day alongside them.

4. Don't worry if writing is difficult.
If your child doesn't feel like writing, they can skip that part, draw instead, or tell you their answer while you write it down for them.

5. Eventually, take the questions off the page.
Once your child becomes familiar with the questions, you don't always need the journal.

Try asking them during a car ride, at dinner, or while getting ready for bed. The goal is to make reflection part of everyday conversation.

6. When printing, select “Fit to Page.”
For the best printing result, choose “Fit to Page” or “Fit” in your printer settings.
